Information on snow removal
During winter storms this season, the state Department of Transportation is taking responsibility for clearing all state-maintained roads inside the Winston-Salem city limits, including such main roads as
- University Parkway
- Peters Creek Parkway
- Waughtown Street
- New Walkertown Road
- Robinhood Road
- Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
State DOT officials requested the change.
In previous years, the state paid the city to clear all or portions of these roads. Because of the change, the city will not be able to respond to citizen requests to clear snow from state-maintained roads. Citizens should call the local state DOT maintenance office at 896-7014 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on workdays. After hours, on weekends and on holidays, citizens should call 896-7010.
Calls for service for city streets should be made to CityLink at 727-8000. If the CityLink agent determines that the street is state-maintained, the agent will forward the call to the state DOT office. |
