Human Relations - Oct. 9, 2019
The Human Relations Department is co-sponsoring a day-long Newcomers Symposium on Thursday, Oct. 17, for agencies throughout North Carolina that assist immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. The symposium will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Forsyth Technical Community College.
The symposium will provide updates on issues and trends on services and policy regarding immigrants and refugees, and allow agency representatives to share best practices and network with each other.
Breakout sessions will cover such topics as physical and mental health for immigrant families, limited English proficiency access to federally funded services, economic benefits of hiring immigrants, fair housing law as it applies to national origin and more.
Registration is $50 and includes lunch. The deadline to register is Oct. 16. To register and for more information go to www.WSBIC.com. The Newcomers Symposium is sponsored by the Human Relations Department, the Building Integrated Communities Committee and World Relief Triad.
