The City Council by resolution recognized the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Coalition on Alcohol and Drug Problems as the primary advisory resource to the Board on matters relating to substance abuse on May 21, 1990.

| Purpose/Function |
The City of Winston-Salem considers the Coalition to be the primary advisory resource on matters related to substance abuse. The Coalition's mission is to reduce alcohol and other drug problems through a coordinated and committed community prevention efforts. |
| Method of Appointment |
The City Council, upon recommendation of the Mayor and the Forsyth County Commissioners shall each appoint nine members (five neighborhood representatives, two religious leaders, and two business leaders); in addition, there are organizational appointments; and membership by capacity appointments. |
