Ways to honor special people in the community or in your family
Citizen's Memorial Wall
The Citizen's Memorial Wall is at New Evergreen Cemetery and will have a bronze plaque for each person honored as having made a significant contribution to our city.
To nominate a person for this memorial wall, download and print the form and attach supporting documentation, then mail to the cemetery office. On the form, explain the contribution or accomplishment of significance and the person's role in the community. Documentation can include: copies of newspaper articles, books, recordings of radio or television interviews, or web site information. Nominations will be reviewed by the Public Works Committee of the City Council. You will be notified of the outcome. There is a $300 fee to cover the costs of creating and mounting the plaque.

Memory Trees
Recreation & Parks offers a Memory Tree Program as a way that city residents can honor the memory of a loved one. You can select the type of tree to be planted and the location. A waterproof tag will be placed around the tree with the name of the person in whose memory it was planted.

Mayor's Proclamations
Send information for a proclamation to the Mayor's office at least a week in advance. You can also request that the Mayor present the proclamation in person, based on his availability.

Honorary Street Signs
A Proclamation is also issued to give a city street or intersection an honorary name for a limited time. The Mayor's office needs the information for the proclamation, and if approved, there is a fee of $75 for installation of the street sign by the Department of Transportation. Honorary street signs are removed after a specified period of time.

Memorial Markers at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum
The Memorial Markers at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum are to honor those individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The criteria is the following:
- The honored individual must have been born in Forsyth County
- The honored individual must have been killed in action in a recognized conflict.
We will verify via a birth certificate or Forsyth County birth records that they were born in Forsyth County. Verification as to their military service is obtained thru various military government agencies.
Once all are verified we contact the family.
New Memorial Markers are usually added in the spring with an official ceremony during the Memorial Day observance Ceremony, according to the wishes of the family.
We are assisted in the process by the Triad Vietnam Veterans Association.
The criteria was established by an ordinance of City Council.
