2010 Piedmont Triad Regional Model (PTRM)
Roadside Travel Survey

The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART), in cooperation with the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the Burlington-Graham Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, the High Point Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the Winston-Salem Forsyth Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is sponsoring a roadside travel survey on major roadways leading into the Triad region.

The survey is scheduled to take place at various locations beginning in late May and ending in late June, 2010. The results will be used to update the Piedmont Triad Regional Model (PTRM). The PTRM is a predictive model that is used to forecast automobile, transit, and commercial vehicle travel in the Triad region given a set of population and economic forecasts. This model is used by PART, NCDOT, and the MPO’s to plan and evaluate future transportation improvements for the region.

The survey team will randomly stop motorists on major roadways leading into the Triad Region and ask trip-related questions about their origin, destination, and general purpose of travel. Each interview should last one to two minutes. Only a small percentage of travelers will be selected to participate, so traffic delays should be minimal.

The survey will be conducted during daylight hours between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. each day.

The information gathered from the travel survey will supplement other travel data to help plan transportation improvements in the Triad region.

If you have any questions about the purpose of the survey, please call Scott Rhine, PART Program Manager, at (336)662-0002, Fredrick Haith with the City of Winston-Salem at (336)747-6865, or Wayne Davis with NCDOT at (919)733-4705.
