Macy Grove Road Improvements Environmental Assessment - Public Input
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Winston-Salem Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are seeking public comments on the Environmental Assessment for the Macy Grove Road Improvements project until December 30, 2010.
Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) project U-2800 proposes to widen Macy Grove Road to multi-lanes, extending the roadway on new location from Old Greensboro Road to north of Old US 421/ E Mountain Street, and converting a grade separation at I-40 Business/US 421 to an interchange. Grade separations are also proposed on new location crossing the Norfolk Southern Railroad and Old US 421/E Mountain Street. TIP project U-4734 proposes to extend Macy Grove Road on new location from north of Old US 421/E Mountain Street to NC 150 (N Main Street).
The primary purpose of the project is to provide a roadway link between I-40 Business/US 421 and NC 150 (N Main Street) north of Kernersville.
Public Hearing
Interested citizens are invited to attend a Pre-Hearing Open House and Combined Public Hearing on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Kernersville Elementary School.
NCDOT representatives will be available at the pre-hearing open house in the school cafeteria between 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. to answer questions and receive comments regarding the proposed project. The opportunity to submit written comments or questions will also be provided. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the above hours.
A formal presentation will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The presentation will consist of an explanation of the proposed location, design, the state-federal relationship, and right-of-way and relocation requirements and procedures. Citizens will have the opportunity to comment or ask questions. The presentation and comments will be recorded and a transcript will be prepared.
Copies of the Environmental Assessment will also be available at the Winston-Salem Department of Transportation, Suite 307, 100 E 1st Street in Winston-Salem.
