Wonderful Wake Forest Students Strike Again!

The wonderful students from Wake Forest University are at it again!  This time, incoming Freshmen, SPARC (Students Promoting Action and Responsibility in the Community), and incoming law school students provided about 60 volunteers on August 15th and 16th to put out storm drain markers & door hangers, and to clean up Salem Creek from Market Place Mall through Washington Park to Broad Street.

SPARC started the event by placing storm drain markers and door hangers in the Konnaok area on a very hot Tuesday afternoon.  This volunteer activity helps to inform a neighborhood about the sources of pollution that end up in stormwater and how we can all protect our water quality by our daily activities.  They were terrific!

Wednsesday morning began with law school students and SPARC students meeting bright and early in the back of Market Place Mall to enter Salem Creek.  That group worked till about 12:00 p.m..  At 12:30 p.m., the second group of students, again both law school and SPARC, started their part of the clean up from Broad St. back.  Lots of interesting items were removed from the creek including tires, shopping carts, four bicycles, broken toys, a car grill, three barrels, and even an old wagon wheel, among other items.  All in all, it was an excellent day's work by an outstanding group of young volunteers!
