Wake Forest Freshman Are Terrific!

Every August, the City of Winston-Salem is privileged to have about 25 incoming Wake Forest Freshman participate in the storm drain marking program and a formidable stream clean up.  The Wake Forest program, "Students Promoting Action and Responsibility in the Community" (SPARC for short) provides students to volunteer throughout the city in a variety of programs.  This is the 5th year that these terrific young people, from all over the country (and further!), have volunteered for the Stormwater Division.

This year's stream clean up netted about 47 bags of trash, lawn furniture, paint cans, and a pesky shopping cart that took about an hour to dislodge!  In addition, 66 storm drains were marked and about 100 informational door hangers were placed in the Skyland Branch area and around the Coliseum.  Kudos to our future leaders for working so well - and on such hot days!
