Basketball

Basketball
Not only is Basketball the favorite sport in North Carolina, it is also the favorite team sport of Special Olympics Forsyth County (SOFC). SOFC offers two levels of competition. Team competition has a roster of 10 players and plays on a regulation court. Half-court basketball (also known as 3-on-3) has a roster of 6 players and competes on half a court.

Athletes participating in both levels of basketball develop physically and mentally, learning the fundamentals of basketball and the benefits of being part of a team. The Flash and Mini-Flash have established themselves as very competitve teams across the state.

In 2000, SOFC implemented 3-on-3 youth basketball in the public schools. The program has grown to over 100 athletes in two years. In 2002, two of the four teams representing Forsyth County at the Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC).
