SUMMARY:
Winston-Salem Police Officers were dispatched to 2512 Machine Street on an unknown trouble call. Upon arrival, officers located Isaiah Brooks (13 years of age) lying in the driveway of the residence. Isaiah was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered a head wound. Isaiah was transported to Baptist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In the months leading up to and the months following this incident, the surrounding residential area had been victim to numerous house breaking and larcenies. During this homicide investigation, it was discovered that the residence at 2512 Machine Street had been broken into and ransacked. Several items had been stolen as a result of this breaking. None of the stolen items were recovered.
Early leads in the case have been exhausted. Numerous items of evidence have been sent to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for analysis over the course of the investigation. The most recent submittal of evidence in 2009 was sent for analysis using newly available DNA testing procedures that have not been offered in previous years.
