Boundaries of the Study Area. The Northwest Area Plan area is almost 4,000 acres in size (6.1 sq. miles) and is bounded by Silas Creek Parkway to the west; the Shoppes at Reynolda Village, the Reynolda Woods neighborhood and Old Town Country Club to the north; Arbor Acres, the Children's Home, R.J. Reynolds High School and Hawthorne Avenue to the east; and Business 40/US 421 to the south. The Planning Area has land in four City Council Wards including the Southwest, West, Northwest and North Wards. The Planning Area is within the City of Winston-Salem’s zoning and planning jurisdiction. |
Staff for the Northwest Area Plan
A Project Planner with the City-County Planning Department is directly responsible for the development of each individual Area Plan, and is assisted by members of other City and County departments. An Interdepartmental Committee from various City and County departments is also formed to give input into the process and review the final recommendations.
Visioning Process
The Visioning process is an opportunity for staff to receive initial input from all residents on how they perceive their neighborhood issues, problems, and opportunities. At the meeting, staff asks citizens to discuss what they like about their neighborhood, what they think needs improvement, and most importantly, what they want their community to look like in the future. The future vision developed at the meeting serves as the basis for recommendations included in the Area Plan.
