Planning Board to Hold Public Hearing on Legacy 2030

City-County Planning - July 19, 2012

The City-County Planning Board will hold a public hearing Thursday, July 26, on Legacy 2030, an update of the Legacy comprehensive plan adopted in 2001 for Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. The hearing will be held at 4:30 p.m. in Room 530 of the Stuart Municipal Building, 100 E. First St., Winston-Salem.

By 2030, the state demographer predicts that Forsyth County’s population will grow by 120,000 people or more, to almost 500,000. However, the county only has 62,000 acres of open land that is viable for development. Legacy 2030 is intended to help our community plan now for this influx of people, while also ensuring there is space for commercial and industrial growth, recreation, schools, and other uses.

The complete draft of Legacy 2030 can be read at Legacy2030.com.
