College Advisory Board Conducting Survey on Diversity

Human Relations - Nov. 28, 2011

The College Advisory Board is inviting college students in Winston-Salem to participate in an online survey of opinions about the acceptance of diversity on college campuses in Winston-Salem.

The board is using an online survey service to solicit responses from students at Winston-Salem State University, Wake Forest University, the UNC School of the Arts, Salem College, Piedmont Baptist College, and Forsyth Technical Community College.

College students interested in participating in the survey can find it at www.surveymonkey.com/s/RM2CZSZ.

The survey was prompted by the discovery of racist and homophobic graffiti on the Wake Forest campus on Oct. 31. In response to that incident, the board issued this statement:

“During this holiday season, the Winston-Salem College Advisory Board would like to give thanks for diversity and the fact that we are not all the same. We express our happiness regarding the multitude of people of differing races, national origins, and orientations we see on our campuses.

“The College Advisory Board invites students at all local colleges and universities to unite for safe, accepting campuses, keeping in mind that negative actions do not only affect an individual campus. Intolerance affects all local campuses and our city as a whole.”

The College Advisory Board is appointed by the City Council to advise the council on matters of interest to students who are enrolled in colleges and universities in Winston-Salem.
