Traffic Signals to Flash During Equipment Upgrade

Drivers in Winston-Salem may encounter flashing traffic signals during the night at intersections next week while crews replace equipment in the traffic control cabinets that control the signals.

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 2, and will take place between 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize traffic disruptions. Work is scheduled to be completed by 7 a.m. Saturday. Inclement weather could delay completion of the work.

Each intersection will flash for about 20 minutes while the equipment is replaced.
Crews are installing new computer chips and modems at all 371 traffic signals in the city in preparation for installing a new computer system that controls and synchronizes traffic signals.
