Author to Discuss Medicinal Plants at Bethabara

Lawrence Griffith will discuss plants used in colonial medicine at Historic Bethabara Park on March 31 as a preliminary event to the observance of Historic Preservation Month in May. Griffith is the author of "Flowers and Herbs in Early America" and is the curator of plants for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

The park will sponsor tours of the 1761 Reconstructed Medical Garden at 4 p.m., followed by Griffith’s lecture at 5:30 p.m. A reception and book signing will be held afterwards. Admission is $3.

Griffith’s lecture is the first in a series of events that will highlight historic landscapes during Historic Preservation Month.

Griffith will also speak at 12:30 p.m. March 31 in the education wing of the greenhouse at Reynolda Gardens. Admission is free for members of Friends of Reynolda Gardens, and $5 for the general public. For more information about that event, call 758-3458.
