Summer Feeding Program to be Announced

Mayor Allen Joines and Superintendent Don Martin of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will hold a news conference Friday, April 25, to announce plans to repeat the initiative that increased the number of children served last summer during the school system’s “Summer Feeding Program for Hungry Children.”

The news conference will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Southeast Gateway YWCA, 1300 S. Main Street. Samples of lunch and breakfast will be served.
With the help of volunteers to bring children to summer feeding sites, officials hope to take full advantage of federal money for summer feeding programs that was not fully used in previous years.

Florence Corpening of the YWCA and Alexandra Milner of Calvary Baptist Church will also speak, along with a representative of the Special Nutrition Programs Unit of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
