Human Relations - Oct. 21, 2008
Contact: Wanda Allen-Abraha, 734-1226

In response to the heightened interest among local college students in national politics, the Winston-Salem Human Relations Department is partnering with Wake Forest University to sponsor, "Race, Gender, and the Presidential Election," as part of its youth outreach program. The program will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the Benson University Center on the campus of Wake Forest University.

Professors from Wake Forest, Winston-Salem State University, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Salem College and Forsyth Technical Community College will discuss the relevance and influence of race and gender in the presidential election and the effects that this election will have on civil rights for these groups. Students with the Wake Forest chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society will serve as the hosts and moderators of the discussion.

The program is open to the public. Time will be allotted for questions from the audience.
