West End Utility Project Update

Some residents in the West End will have their water service temporarily disrupted after 7 p.m. on Monday, March 5, while new water valves are installed. Service is scheduled to be restored by midnight. The disruptions will affect residents who live on:
- Burke Street, from Fourth Street to Brookstown Avenue;
- First Street, from Burke Street to Peters Creek Parkway;
- West End Boulevard, from Forsyth to First streets;
- Piedmont Avenue, from Fourth to First streets;
- Fourth Street, from First Street to Piedmont Avenue;
- Brookstown Avenue, from Burke Street to Peters Creek Parkway;
- Fayette Street; and
- Thomas Street.
Door hangers are being placed on the affected property owners’ doors.
Construction Update:
First Street: Work on First Street between Fourth Street and Hawthorne Road continues. First Street should reopened by Monday, March 12. This section of First Street will be resurfaced, and the sidewalk and curbing will be replaced, by the city Streets Division in early spring. Temporary disruptions may occur during that time.
Brookstown Avenue: Work on Brookstown Avenue between Jersey Avenue and Fifth Street will begin on Monday, March 5. Detour routes will be posted.
West End Boulevard: Work on West End Boulevard, between Brookstown Avenue and Clover Street, will begin on Monday, March 5. Detour routes will be posted.
The Utilities Division is replacing aging water and sewer lines in most of the West End neighborhood. Work is expected to last through July 2008.
