West End Utility Project Update (see map below)
Construction will begin Monday, July 9, on a portion of West End Boulevard that connects Reynolda Road with Broad Street, altering travel patterns for drivers who use Reynolda Road to get to and from downtown.
The block of West End Boulevard between Reynolda Road and Summit Street will be closed for about two weeks. Drivers headed to downtown should take Northwest Boulevard to Broad Street. A map showing the closed block and the detour is posted on the city Web site (www.cityofws.org).
Construction has concluded on West End Boulevard, between Sunset Drive and Glade Street; and on Summit Street, between Carolina Avenue and West End Boulevard. These blocks are now open.
Construction continues on Fifth Street between Summit Street and Brookstown Avenue. A detour is posted.
The Utilities Division is replacing aging water and sewer lines in most of the West End neighborhood. Work is expected to last through July 2008.
