Mayor Declares Seventeen Days of Mourning for Slain Police Officer

Mayor Allen Joines has declared seventeen days of mourning for the death of Sergeant Howard Plouff. Plouff died Friday evening after being shot in the line of duty while responding to a fight outside a nightclub. Flags at city buildings will be flown at half-staff. The seventeen days will honor Plouff’s seventeen years of service with the Winston-Salem Police Department.
In addition, Joines is calling on all Winston-Salem/Forsyth County residents to leave their front porch lights on from 7 to 8 p.m. each evening from Monday, February 26th until March 4th, in honor of Plouff’s service to the city and its residents.
