When "Walking with Dinosaurs - The Live Experience" comes to Joel Coliseum next month, ticket-holders will be treated to a breathtaking show that recreates the dinosaurs in all their earth-shaking, awe-inspiring immensity.
For the next three weekends, WSTV 13 is offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how the show’s producers achieved the technical and artistic breakthroughs to reproduce these huge creatures with amazing realism and agility. To succeed, they had to invent new ways to build and manipulate creatures that weighed up to 20 tons when they walked the Earth.
Using state-of-the-art animatronics, sound and lighting, Walking with Dinosaurs features some of the best-known dinosaurs to ever roam the Earth, from the fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex to the immense Brachiosaurus and the comical Stegosaurus.
Walking with Dinosaurs is educational as well as entertaining, covering the entire 200 million-year reign of the dinosaurs, complete with the climactic and tectonic changes that took place before their demise 65 million years ago.
"The Making of Walking With Dinosaurs" is showing at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 8 p.m. on Sundays, Sept. 22 through Oct. 7 on WSTV 13, cable channel 13 on TimeWarner cable in Forsyth County.
"Walking with Dinosaurs - The Live Experience" is playing seven shows at Joel Coliseum Oct. 10 - 15 in its only North Carolina appearance. Tickets run from $27.50 to $68 and are available at the coliseum box office, and all Ticketmaster locations. A "school special" showing will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, with a special ticket price of just $16.50 for groups of 10 or more. For school show tickets call the coliseum at 725-5635 ext. 411.
