Chemical Spill Closes Intersection

The intersection of Burke Mill and Griffith roads was closed Thursday morning because of a hazardous chemical spill.

The Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Response Team was called out after a passer-by reported the spill at 8:23 a.m. The caller reported that a container similar in appearance to a milk jug was spilling a yellow liquid into the intersection. The hazmat team determined that the chemical was hydrofluoric acid.

A&D Environmental and Industrial Services Inc. has been called in to assist with the cleanup. The intersection is expected to reopen later today.
