Walter Farabee
Minority and Women Business Enterprise Coordinator
In November 2011, Walter O. Farabee took the position of Minority and Women Business Enterprise Coordinator with the City of Winston-Salem. The city’s M/WBE program is designed to build close relationships with local businesses in the Winston-Salem area and to strengthen the city’s long standing commitment to assist local firms.
In this position Walter acts as a liaison between the city and privately-owned businesses looking to get involved in city projects. He works to ensure that there is adequate participation on city projects by minority- and women-owned businesses, as well as Section 3 low-income persons/ businesses on HUD-funded projects. In addition, he works to strengthen the city’s outreach to M/WBE businesses and citizens interested in starting their own businesses. His goals are to address barriers to business and to increase opportunities, training, and accessibility of information for minority- and women-owned, as well as Section 3 businesses in the city.
Walter is a native of Winston-Salem and a magna cum laude graduate of Hampton University with a B.S. in Economics. He also holds a Master’s of City and Regional Planning degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His work experience is in community development, planning research, and housing policy.
