Assistant to Mayor Allen Joines

Linda assists Mayor Joines in formulating and implementing policies, programs and special projects related to Mayor's office involvement in critical community issues; plans, coordinates and facilitates community problem-solving efforts, special events, meetings, conferences and public forums initiated by Mayor; manages all aspects of internal and external communications activities of the Mayor's office, including media and public relations functions such as public information programs, news releases, news conferences, annual reports; performs research; provides staff support for Mayor during selected conferences and seminars; coordinates citizen participation in the citizen advisory boards and commission application process; coordinates the development of annual action plan, budgetary responsibilities and long-range planning for Mayor's office; serves on various boards and committees to represent the Mayor's office; serves as the Mayor's liaison with various community organizations and citizen groups; creates work programs for and supervises college and graduate interns; handles a variety of inquiries and complaints from citizens, as well as managing the day-to-day functions of the Office of the Mayor.

Prior to becoming Assistant to the Mayor of Winston-Salem, Linda Jackson-Barnes developed a highly notable 23-year career in law enforcement with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She moved up the ranks with extreme precision, going from Patrol Officer to Detective to Sergeant, and finally, as Administrative Lieutenant, earned numerous professional and community awards such as Officer of the Year, Woman of the Year, Sheriff's Department Outstanding Leadership and Dedicated Service Award, and Distinguished Achievement in Law Enforcement Award. Linda has demonstrated her commitment for several years by serving on numerous Boards of Directors.

She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She is also a graduate of Leadership Chattanooga and other specialized schools.

Linda is an active member of the United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, The Winston-Salem Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Leadership Winston-Salem, United Way 2006 Campaign Cabinet, and several other boards and committees.
