Neighborhoods throughout Winston-Salem are invited to join with thousands of communities nationwide on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, for the 36th Annual National Night Out for crime and drug prevention. From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout Winston-Salem and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
The deadline for registering your Neighborhood Watch Group's event with the Winston-Salem Police Department for this year's National Night Out was Monday, June 24. You are allowed to request up to 6 shirts per group but the number of shirts actually distributed will be based on how many groups register an event. If we have a large number of groups that register an event the number of shirts per group will decrease. When you list your shirt sizes in your registration form, please do so in the order of their priority in case I have to reduce the number below 6. Thank you.
National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, and is locally co-sponsored by the Winston-Salem Police Department and Walmart, will involve more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world. In all, more than 37 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night Out Against Crime." National Night Out is designed to: Heighten crime and drug-prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
